Art 1 CP 

(9th-12th Grade Level) This introductory course develops creative thinking and different ways to “see” by exploring methods and approaches of art-making through hands-on projects. Students will plan and design projects in their sketchbooks. They will learn skills to draw, paint, sculpt, design, and respond to a variety of media including collage, pastels and fabrics. They will discover and explore diverse topics influenced by world culture and the history of art in their projects.

Art 2 CP 

(9th-12th Grade Level) Students add to the skills and knowledge of materials and concepts from Art 1 to explore painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking and crafts in a deeper way. Media may include silkscreen, acid-etched mirrors, calligraphy, graphic design, technology, textiles, pen & ink and pastels.

Drawing & Painting CP 

This course offers students’ opportunities to develop their interests and skills in drawing and painting. Students will learn techniques such as water coloring, acrylic, tempera painting as well as how to draw with charcoal, pen & ink, pencil and other materials. Lessons and projects may include portraits, landscapes, still-life and perspective drawing.

Jewelry CP

This course is an introduction to jewelry with an emphasis on design and technical skills.  Sequential steps will focus on planning, drawing, and designing each piece before making it. Students will acquire basic skills and techniques and will learn beading, wire work, metal stamping, cold connections and more.  Students will be exposed to the history of jewelry and study a variety of styles.  Students will analyze and critique their own work and the work of others.

Sculpture CP

This class literally rocks! Learn the secrets of Michelangelo’s stone carving, the splendor of cathedral stained glass; Alexander Calder’s floating mobiles, making mosaic art for the school to see and more! Do you need a new art experience to express yourself?  If you like using your hands and would like to work with safe hand tools such as nippers, pliers, saws, drills, polishers, hammers, chisels, then working with clay, glass, stone, alabaster, tile and wood, this class is for you.  If you like to work outside in the quad where we get down and dirty, or inside when we get & serious, if you like working in teams or alone, then you should sculpt with us!

Ceramics 1 CP 

(9th-12th Grade Level) Students are introduced to a variety of methods of creating functional and decorative clay objects. The study of glazing, decorative methods, design and hand-building techniques such as coiling, pinching, sculpting and building with slabs are covered in a variety of hands-on projects. Students learn how to work with a potters’ wheel.

Ceramics 2 CP 

(10th-12th Grade Level) Projects and lessons are formulated to allow students the opportunity to work on challenging projects, further developing the skills and knowledge from Ceramics 1. Students are expected to prepare independent plans/projects according to their own interests and desires. Work on the potters’ wheel continues. Prerequisites:

Photography CP

This course is designed for the beginner photographer with no previous experience with digital cameras.  Students will gain skills needed for creating photographs: including basic layout and design, color theory, shape and composition. Students will have the opportunity to develop technical skills in Adobe Photoshop. Students will be exposed to the history of photography and photographers by studying and emulating a variety of photographic styles.  Students will understand how the process of composing photos has changed with the evolving capabilities of digital photography.  Students are encouraged to use their own cameras.
