PRINCIPAL'S LETTERWelcome to Westmoor High School! Westmoor High School is one of the four comprehensive high schools in the Jefferson Union High School District. Ours is the largest of the district’s schools. Ours is also the school with the highest API score in the district. We are proud of our school and thank you for taking the time to visit our web site. Below is some information about Westmoor students, staff, and programs. Our students are motivated, success-oriented, polite, and courteous. The strong student work ethic can be seen in our hallways, classrooms, and courtyards. The students arrive to school ready to learn and their successes are clear and unequivocal. In the last four years, Westmoor students have successfully matriculated to Stanford University, University of Chicago, Harvey Mudd College, UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC, UC Davis, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, UC Santa Cruz, UC Riverside, UC Merced, USF, St. Mary’s College, New York University, San Francisco State University, San Jose State University, and many other prestigious institutions of higher learning. Our students successfully take advantage of our many academic programs and offerings: Advanced Placement courses, Honors and Enriched courses, AVID, Opportunity, Gateways, and much more. In the last two years, Westmoor students have successfully earned regional, state, and national awards in FBLA (Business) and FHA-Hero (Home Economics) competitions. We are proud to offer to our students membership opportunities in over 35 clubs. We have a strong athletics programs with offerings in cross country, soccer, baseball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, basketball, track and field, and swimming. A little bit more about our accomplishments with the Academic Performance Index: Westmoor possesses the honor of having the highest Academic Performance Index (API) scores in the Jefferson Union High School District with a 778 API Score. Last year our API was 763 and we ranked second among our district’s schools. Our state target was to increase our score by 5 points to 768. In the proud Westmoor tradition of exceeding expectations, our excellent students and our amazing staff pulled together to raise our API score by an amazing 15 points making Westmoor among the highest ranked schools in San Mateo County with a 778 API score. We are currently ranked an 8 (out of 10)—again among the best rankings in northern San Mateo County. I congratulate our students for their continued focus on academic achievement! I also congratulate our teachers, counselors, and staff members for their continued hard work and collegiality as they analyzed data, spent hours in meetings finding innovative ways to teach and deepen understanding of curriculum, and prepared our students for success. Truly, a job well done! This past summer and this fall, our staff members and I are busy preparing for our Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) visit in January. As many of you know, we earned the coveted 6-year term with a 3-year review in 2006. This January, the WASC team will be back on campus and members of our faculty and staff are eager to show them how Westmoor High School has continued its ascent. Some highlights:
